Pinaynay and the Kids Meets Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast A Musical For Children

Last October 21st, we were invited by a friend, a fellow mom blogger Momsterrificmisadventure to join her watch REP theater for Young Audiences’ (RTYA) Beauty and the Beast. I have heard about this musical play a couple of months ago and I was really planning on watching this with my girls. We are a big fan of the Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and watching it onstage with live performance will be a nice, new experience for the kids. I would also love to watch our own production and our own Filipino actors play the part of the fairytale’s characters.

It was heartwarming to know that the event on that day was organized by Ayala Multipurpose Cooperative for the benefit of Hero Foundation Inc. HERO Foundation Inc. is a non profit organization that provides financial and educational assistance to orphans of our country’s “heroes,” our soldiers. HERO stands for Help, Educate, and Rear Orphans. Christmas is coming and to individual, families or corporations who are looking for a foundation to help and donate to please add them up on your blessings list. Click here to know more about the foundation.

We arrived at the venue, Onstage Theatre in Greenbelt 1, a little bit late but we still managed to get a seat. We got the front row seat. I was hesitant to bring my youngest boy along because I know he can get a little too impatient, sitting down for a long time without any food. Food, except for water is not allowed in the venue so better fill up with your snack or meals before watching.

Half of the the audience were kids. So I was releaved that we will not be the only potentially loud people in the audience. Haha! The musical play were really meant for kids and the kid at heart of course! My two girls were immediately mezmerized by the show and stayed quiet the entire time. Me, I mesmerized with Beauty/Belle’s voice.

I was nervous for the youngest, being energetic as he was, he might do something unpredictable, he might get scared of the Beast or the darkness. To my amazement he was well behaved. He was excited and happy, in fact he was also singing along with Beauty and the flowers. We love the happy song! Up to now we still do the group song especially in the car only daddy can’t relate. Hihihi, hahaha, hohoho…!

Some of the scene from the play. (I took this from the play’s souvenir program, you are not allowed to take photos and turning off of cellphone is encouraged during the show)

The little boy fully awake and well behaved the whole time!

We were graced by the voice and charms of Beauty, which was played by Ms. Alana Vicente. We laughed by the antics of Beauty’s sisters and their suitors. Papà made us teary eyed. Silver Rose’s performance was superb, I wanted to cry. Beast made us nervous, made us laughed and pity at the same time. You have to hold on your seat for the finale and the grand reveal.

RTYA’s Beauty and the Beast is a whole lot different from Disneys’ adaptation. Their is an adoptation from Peter del Valle and John Ahearn’s classic. It is the closest to the French original version. Believe me, The musical is worth your time and money, credits to the Artistic Director Joy Virata.

Some shots after the play

It was an enjoyable evening for kids, from the very young and the not so young!

For those who want to watch Beauty and the Beast the ticket price is very much affordable, even for a practical mom like me. It varies from 400+ to 600+. you can check it out on Ticket World. The show still runs up to December 14, 2017 at Onstage, 2nd floor of Greenbelt 1 . It is a 75 minutes loaded of fun and entertainment!

After the musical, the kids even recieved bags of goodies from Ayala Multipurpose Cooperative

REP theater for the Young Audience (RTYA) is a division of Repertory Philippines. They both celebrated their anniversary this 2017. It was the 50th for Repertory Philippines and 25th for RTYA. I guess it was indeed meaningful for them to support organization such as Hero foundation Inc. They have a lot of shows and plays coming up, so do follow them on Repertory Philippines’facebook, Instagram and @repphils in Twitter.

Layas si Pinay-nay (Watch “Real Mommas Ph” on YouTube)

I am guessing that “layas” has no direct english translation (Tell me because I am not in the mood to google.) Layas means going to places or, when you are refered to as layas, you are a person who often go out or go to places most of the time or all the time. Sometimes a positive verb and sometimes, a negative adjective. It really depends on how you use it.

The Real Mommas of Ph admins met through the advocacy of baby wearing and breast feeding. Some people may wonder why we always hang out with our babies wrapped in blankets, weird cloth and backpack like carrier (We are not torturing our kids noh!). This is attachment parenting. You can read about why I do this from my previous blogs. To spread the love of baby wearing we do our layas in public places.

The Real Mommas ph admins a.k.a Real Mommas of Mandaluyong favorite spot to do our layas is at the Greenfield District in Mandaluyong. We do our meet up almost every week during Greenfield District Weekend Night Market. The night market is every Saturday from 4Pm to 12 MN. There, you  can see awesome arts, organic fruits vegetables and plants, nice food and diversity of people and pets. You can also chill out and listen to live jazz while you eat.

Watch the video here:

If you want to know about us, babywearing and breast feeding you can join Real Mommas Ph on facebook.

You can visit Greenfield District and Weekend Market page on Facebook although I am not connected with them in anyway.

It is Christmas time as I post this entry! The video is also a gift to my Real Mommas Ph family! Merry Christmas! Cheers!

MaArtsy si PiNaynay, A visit to the one man show of Aris C. Bagtas (Watch “Paraisong Parisukat Exhibition” on YouTube)

I have been an admirer of Aris C. Bagtas’ works ever since I saw one of his work at my Kuya Jason Macuha’s house a few years back. Kuya Jason is the main man behind Macuha Art Gallery http://www.macuha-artgallery.com/blog/. I like the way  Bagtas plays with the color, very vibrant and lively. But, what I like most  in every pieces he does, Bagtas put a lot of Filipino pride into it.

This is our family shot last Christmas and behind us is one of Aris Bagtas creation “Bonding Time”

Aris Bagtas is one of the main artist featured in the Macuha Art Gallery. You can read more about him in

http://www.macuha-artgallery.com/blog/aris-bagtas-profile/

and see some of his works. According to the blog he had numerous art exhibitions here and abroad and countless award herenin the Philippines and abroad. This guy is not just an artist but a philanthropist as well, giving his time and effort for charities and even mentoring young artists. I have been following him on facebook but I never met him personally. When I learned about one of his show nearby, I took the opportunity to visit one here in Megamall, Mandaluyong.

Here is a short video of that Exhibit:

The exhibit title is Paraisong Parisukat which I have read from a post in The Daily Tribune http://www.tribune.net.ph that it is Aris Bagtas’ “Poverty Pornography.” In this collections, he used mixed media and sculptures depicting the barong-barong (shanties) houses in the Philippines.

Shanty houses are commonly seen in what we call squaters area. The houses are made of light materials and some houses are one on top of another. It is such an eyesore to see but the artist’s interpretation made it look as to what the exhibit’s name, it is Paraisong Parisukat (square paradise). For the poor Filipino families it is their own paradise. Why paradise? It is because Filipinos especially the poor still find the most amazing way to feel happy about their lives no matter how hard it is. That is how Aris Bagtas want to show and make us remember how good it is to be a Filipino.
