Marikit, an adjective, an old Filipino or Tagalog word typically use to describe something or someone pretty or beautiful. A pretty name for a woven wrap. A product should hold true to it’s given name. Will this wrap meet a Pinay Nanay standards? Let us see.
I mentioned from my previous blogs and reviews, aside from safety, comfort is the number one priority for me when it comes to anything or any cloth that would touch my skin or even my babies’ skins. My first impression when I opened the package is how thin and airy Marikit was. Sadly, upon closer inspection I discovered some broken threads. It gave me the impression that it is prone to pulls and breaks so one should be very careful when using it.
Although I’m not that crazy about the colorway, I was impressed with the color combination when taking photos. It is very visually appealing and can boost the marikit points for any plain wardrobe. I usually premade the wrap when on the go and this wrap was great as an additional accessory for me. It also looked nice when I tried on different finish when I did back – carries.
The tapered end I love, made tying a lot quicker and easier for me. As I mentioned above Marikit is rather air and thin that I find it a bit challenging at first in securing a snuggly seat for my two kids. The wrap seemed to become loose and slide a bit when doing a quick uppy. This one has a learning curve. It was challenging at first but I managed to get used to it. The color pattern of the weave is not forgiving for a lousy wrap job. It also had became a bit diggy on the shoulders when worn the longest time.
The density of the wrap is good for our weather for the weave is not compact. It provides good ventilation for our babies. It is just too bad that I am not a fan of cotton polyester, I find it a bit rough on the skin thus making me a bit uncomfortable. It may need a bit more breaking in.
As an exclusively breastfeeding momma, another thing I am looking for a carrier or wrap is the easiest way I can feed the little one while wearing. Now this is where we fell for Marikit, it was very easy to maneuver and adjust to our breast feeding height and position.
The aim of a testing a wrap is to get the first hand information based on the experience of a real momma wearer. I have been wearing for more than three years now but I am still am a woven wrap beginner. I am brutally honest with my review aimed not to be negative and pinpoint the cons but for the purpose of improving the product for the babies’ safety and moms’ comfort.
Marikit Wrap is very promising. I am a fan and supporter of local weaver, producers and sellers. I choose to own a locally produced wrap even if I can buy other imported ones of the same price. Local weavers should benefit more and should be given much credit and appreciation. I would keep an eye on this one and I look forward for some more releases with different weave patterns and blends.
