Magtago sa Ilalim ng Saya ni Pinay-nay mo! (“Saya” Review)

Saya, one word, with two meanings; sayá, a traditional Filipino wear or gown and sayà, meaning happiness. The Saya I am about to tell you is a brand of baby carrier. A brilliant name for a product.

From my previous blog, I mentioned how I got my first baby carrier. I love my Saya and I am still loving it now. Even if people around me look at me like I’m a weird hippie. I wear my Saya and my baby, proud and happy.

So here is my short review on Saya VTB versatek blend ,

PRICE:  very affordable compared to other           ergonomic carriers (Bought mine at around 1400php)

VERSATILITY: can be used as both a carrier and a nursing wear
can also breastfeed easily while wearing.

FEEL: silky, thin, and soft on the skin
made of spandex and nylon material
you can easily feel the baby’s movement.
slightly warm when worn but tolerable.

COLOR: (this depend on the color you choose)
easy on the eyes
looks cool (temperature)
doesn’t bleed or fade easily

DURABILITY: highly durable (of course you should take care of this like a life saver)

SUPPORT : supportive especially for smaller babies
bigger babies may need additional support, a stabilizer can be purchased separately.

SAFETY: safe as long as you wear your baby properly.
for additional safety, a stabilizer can be purchased separately.
they provide infographics guide/leaflet on proper wearing and using

LOOK: looks cute on like it is a part of the wardrobe.
can also be worn like an infinity scarf.
(They recently launched different fashionable color and designs)

CONVENIENCE: easy to wear and remove.
small and easy to carry, can be tucked inside your regular bag.
easy to wash and dry.

SIZING: depends on the wearers’ not on the baby’s

Overall I give Saya: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Saya is definitely a head turner. Old folks most of the time threw me evil eyes like I am torturing my kids when I baby wear them. Even friends and relatives sometime tells me that I must belong to one of the indigenous tribe begging for alms on the streets. It really hurts me sometimes but I just brush it off my shoulders.

Surprisingly, most people that doesn’t go on the same page with me on my baby wearing are those people that are not so well educated or those people who have limited knowledge about attachment parenting. When I go to the mall wearing my baby, that is a different story. I get a lot of praises, smiles and nods. Makes me think and conclude that folks that go to the malls are ma-Saya, “happy” people.

I will continue baby wearing because my baby is also ma-saya. My baby is happy and healthy mommy is ma-saya as well. Happy to be “in.”

If you want to know more about the product you can visit their website/online shop and their facebook page. Disclaimer: Im not an endorser or anyway related to their company. I am just ma-saya (happy) to give you what I know about their product, based on my own experience. And, if you will ask me if it was a good buy. Yes it is! In buying this we also support Filipino product which is good for our economy.

*ps: The title is a common/famous term or line from “Magtago ka na sa ilalim ng saya ng nanay mo,” usually uttered when threatening an enemy- to hide under the skirt of the mother, which is the usual tendencies of kids to do when they are scared (sometimes of the bumbay, which is another story!haha!).

Ang Sayang Suot ni Pinay-nay (A Baby Wearing Blog)

Mothers carry babies more or less 40 weeks inside the womb.  For some, the feeling and anticipating every little movement is such an awesome experience.  While our babies are inside the womb, they are used to the warm environment, the squished fetal-position and the sounds our body organs produced.

For almost ten months, our own body is our baby’s cradle. That is why when the little one comes out of their mom’s body, they wanted to be hugged and held all the time. Just like a kangaroo with a pouch for their kid, this where our baby wearing comes in.

Baby wearing is an old practice or better yet, an ancient practice done by parents, grandparents, siblings and even caregivers. In www.slingbabies.co.nz , they enumerated the different and unique ways each country has for baby carrying. It is a bit disappointing that in the modern times this practice is almost disappearing. Maybe for some, it is a bit off because it is often referred to the poor, beggars, hippies and indigenous people only. Although now, thanks to the social media and the information available in the internet, it is slowly becoming and hopefully being accepted again.

My baby wearing journey started when I was browsing Facebook and saw a friend’s wife using a ring sling. That time, I was pregnant with my daughter,  I promised myself that I would buy one. I searched and searched over the internet but I always end up with a famous line of narrow based carrier which is so expensive that time. Honestly, the high price is not the one that really turned me off but, it was the position of the baby that did. I told myself, “No, I’m not going to place my daughter in a carrier like that.”

I gave birth and my husband asked me if I wanted a stroller.  I automatically said no and, that I wanted something that I can hold on and keep my baby close to my body. I wanted a carrier, a sling.  So, we searched in the malls but to my disappointment I did not like what they offered me. After a few more days, we visited a baby store nearby our place. They also did not have the rs that I wanted but, to my surprise what they have was even better (In my own view that time, sorry rs user!). They introduced me to this local brand of sling which is named after a Filipino woman’s national cloth,  “Saya.” That is how I started my baby wearing journey and how attachment-parenting had changed my life and my view as a parent.

Selfie before going to the market. One of the many benefit of baby wearing is the convenience of carrying something else aside from the little one.

Malling and enjoying for several hours without a fussy baby. Baby wearing improves a child behavior by avoiding over-stimulation. Sorry for the poor wrapping skills here. I guess I just wanna show little one’s OOTD. I am also not fully knowledgeable of the proper baby wearing positions because of too little information that time.

Babywearing, breast-feeding and surfing. No, I didn’t wear him while surfing. We just enjoy hanging out by the beach and watching some surfing competition.

More hanging out on the surf spot. We can enjoy long walks along the beach while daddy surfs and here, my sling (Saya) double as a nursing cover.

More baby wearing chronicles next time with your Pinay-nay and many more pakikipagsapalaran(adventures)!

What Pinay Wants Pinay Gets

Welcome to my new blog! I have been writing blogs and journals ever since. I am just not sure when exactly. I started with Live Journal and then I made my website on Geocities, which both had gone to extinction. Although I think Live Journal still exists, that was my writing that have gone to oblivion.

I have written some blogs here and there but never have I sustained one. I feel sorry for myself that I never made that far, with my writing career. It must be the lack of drive or maybe that was only a “hype” thingy that drove me to write those blogs.

What Pinay Wants Pinay Gets started as a facebook page with which I posts and repost some of my interests and insights. This is not exclusively about Filipino stuffs and going ons. The page is dedicated to the Pinays and Pinays at heart. You maybe from other part of the world or of different race, you can be Pinay too.

The blog aims to celebrate Pinays or Filipino women. Some of the everyday lives and going ons are illustrated as a comic or rage comics. Also, Pinay at heart doesn’t only mean for transgender or transsexual but of course even for men.

Men, admit it or not there is also that femininity inside of you. This reminded me of one episode of Johnny Bravo(of Cartoon Network), where Johnny got curious about this other male character of whom can attract other ladies without even trying. The other guy told him (while singing) about letting go of his feminine side. Alright Pinoys, you can also be Pinay.

Again,welcome to my blog!
